Stone Thickness Guide

Thickness affects both the look and the structural performance of stone. This guide explains which thickness to choose for benchtops, floors and outdoor paving.

Benchtop thickness

Discuss slab thickness separately from visible edge height. A mitred or built-up edge can look thicker than the slab itself. Confirm available sizes, supports, spans and cut-outs with your fabricator.

Flooring and paving thickness

There is no universal safe thickness for a floor or outdoor paver. Product strength, substrate, supports, span, exposure and loading all affect the specification. Obtain an installation design for the actual site.

Questions

Common questions

First distinguish slab thickness from built-up edge height. The fabricator must assess the exact material, supports, spans and cut-outs; neither number alone proves structural suitability.
