Distinguish a grit from a numbered step
Record the range name and the marking exactly as printed. Some ranges use steps rather than conventional grit designations. Do not translate a step into a grit or mix different brands’ stages without documented guidance.
For example, when replacing a worn second stage, send a label photograph and the names of the stages used before and after it. Request the same system or a documented alternative rather than an arbitrary pad with a similar colour.
Match backing, diameter and operation
Note pad diameter, backing or attachment, machine model and whether the work is on an edge or a flat surface. Confirm the manufacturer’s wet/dry instructions and operating limits for the exact range.
Tell the team the material and existing finish. A finishing system documented for one application is not automatically appropriate for another. Review a suitable test area and the manufacturer’s process before treating a finished installation.
Plan the complete sequence
Ask which stages the documented process requires and which accessories are compatible. Include the quantities you need per stage. Availability and supply timing are confirmed separately from technical suitability.
Manufacturer references
Use the instructions for your exact product and machine. Linked ranges are not confirmation of compatibility.
